They inhabit tropical Indo-Pacific waters, including the Red Sea, from East Africa to the western Pacific.

It is very small, with the adult body measuring just 2 to 3 centimeters.

Its shell has a pattern that resembles a mosaic.

It is solitary and territorial, usually hiding in crevices and emerging only when it feels safe.

It carries an anemone in each claw, making it look as though it was holding pom-poms or wearing boxing gloves.

DID YOU KNOW?

• When threatened, it waves the anemones. The anemones' stinging cells help drive predators away.

• If a crab loses one anemone, it can split the remaining one and allow each half to grow into a new anemone.

• It also uses the anemones to gather scraps of food and suspended particles from the seafloor, almost like a pair of tiny brooms.

• The anemones are not accessories. They are the crab's primary tools for both defense and feeding.

Because seeing one makes us happy! With its curious little face and pom-poms in its claws, it looks like something out of a cartoon. But it is real: it exists, defends itself, and survives exactly as you see it.
