They inhabit tropical and subtropical seas around the world, including the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans.

A broad, flat, diamond-shaped body, with a distinctive row of white spots across the dark back.

An extremely long, slender tail; some have a stinger, although not all do.

They can reach a wingspan of more than 3 meters.

They breathe through spiracles located behind the eyes.

They feed on crustaceans, mollusks, and small invertebrates uncovered from the seafloor with the snout.

DID YOU KNOW?

• They have fused dental plates that work like a crusher, powerful enough to break the hard shells of mollusks and crustaceans.

• They can leap from the water and rise as high as 2 meters.

• They may travel in enormous groups called schools, with dozens or even hundreds of individuals swimming together.

• They can dig through the sand by blowing jets of water to uncover hidden prey.

Because, even if only for a moment, the eagle ray makes us believe that flying underwater is possible. And we stop asking whether it is and simply enjoy it.
