LIVE
They inhabit seas around the world, especially in tropical and temperate regions.
They live on reefs, sandy bottoms, and rocky areas, from the shoreline to depths that may exceed 50 meters.

As they grow, they must change shells several times throughout their lives.
They do not "build" their homes and depend entirely on the availability of shells within the ecosystem.
If no suitable shell is available, they may occupy pieces of coral, tubes, metal scraps, or plastic.
