These three sharks inhabit tropical and temperate seas around the world.
They are key predators: they regulate populations and help maintain the balance of marine ecosystems.
Their sense of smell is extraordinarily developed; they can detect a drop of blood in millions of liters of water.
Despite its colossal size, the whale shark filter-feeds like a whale.
The hammerhead shark has almost panoramic 360-degree vision thanks to the unique shape of its head.
The oceanic whitetip is known for its curious behavior and unmistakable silhouette.
DID YOU KNOW?
•Hammerhead sharks can detect prey buried beneath the sand through electrical sensors in their heads that pick up impulses produced by other animals.
•The whale shark can grow to more than 12 meters, yet it feeds on some of the smallest organisms in the ocean: plankton, fish eggs, and tiny crustaceans.
•The oceanic whitetip shark was once one of the most abundant sharks on the planet, but its populations have declined by more than 90% in many parts of the ocean.
•Sharks have existed for more than 400 million years, and there are over 500 species.
Because we were taught to fear sharks even before we could get to know them. And we believe it is worth remembering that curiosity will always be a better starting point than fear.
